In case you haven't already heard the good news, we got a phone call on Monday morning telling us that Steven does in fact have a job with the Enumclaw Fire Department and he starts work on July 2nd. Can you believe that I'm married to a firefighter?!? How cool is that?
We were very very pleased about this and it made our already wonderful Hawaiian vacation infinitely better! I'll admit, I was still a little mopey about the whole situation and might have even rolled my eyes when Steven got the phone call because I was so annoyed with the way the whole thing had gone down (I know, what a sulky baby! but seriously...) -- why the four days of severe disappointment if there's nothing but good news on the other side? (turns out they were waiting for the "okay" to hire two more people and that just didn't come until a few days after they had promised to announce who was being offered jobs). It was a pretty serious clash of emotions for me. I knew that I should be jumping for joy but I had just had my legs knocked out from under me with the not-so-good news we had received prior to this and it's rather difficult to jump from a seated position. Everyone else's excitement helped the reality of the situation to completely sink in and now it feels like we've been celebrating all week! of course, there's plenty more celebrating to come -- we have a party in the works and since we've already sorted out that Steven has the weekend of our anniversary off and we're actually going to have a proper income, we'll definitely be planning something sweet for that as well :)
As for now, Steven is still running calls as a volunteer -- I was about fifteen minutes away from getting dinner on the table when he ran out with his pager in hand to go on a call a little while ago. Hopefully he will be back soon though or I might just have to eat by myself.
We'll be spending the next week getting things back in order, doing laundry, tidying up the house, going to doctors appointments, ordering uniforms, scheduling a psych evaluation (him not me), baking cookies (like I said, celebrating), party planning, and sorting through almost 1,000 photos from our fabulous week in Hawaii with the Mayers (blog post soon to follow the mad photo sorting). I hope your week was just as amazing as ours and that you were able to enjoy the incredible Seattle weather that I heard you were blessed with while we were away.
Much love,
Steph
